Christina Aguilera National Anthem Screwup

Christina Aguilera’s rendition of the National Anthem turned into the most searched for prop bet on the Gambling911.com website, Senior Editor Payton O’Brien revealed Monday morning.

“When all was said and done, the National Anthem-related prop will have drawn more attention than any other in Super Bowl betting history, at least in terms of Gambling911.com readership,” O’Brien said.

While featured sponsor Sportsbook.com was offering odds on the length of the Anthem (which appeared to go OVER the 1 minute and 54 seconds posted), none of the online sportsbooks were offering odds on whether she would botch the lyrics.  Look for this to become an annual Super Bowl prop bet in years to follow.

“It’s amazing nobody thought of this, including us,” said O’Brien.  Gambling911.com does occasionally supply its sportsbook sponsors with ideas for novelty odds.

Aguilerasang "what so proudly we watched" instead of "o'er the ramparts we watched."

"I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through,” she said afterwards.

Second after that National Anthem bet, came the Volkswagen Darth Vader commercial wager.   Gambling911.com had offered this one as a pick to win “Highest Rated Super Bowl Commercial” as determined by the USA Today ad ratings meter.  Sportsbook.com had this one under a +250 “field” option, paying $25 for every $10 bet.

In the end, it was Anheuser-Busch and Doritos that tied in the ratings, both with ads featuring dogs.  No word yet on how this bet was ultimately graded.
