Ladbrokes may be known more for the fish that play in their online poker room

Now the fish have become a focus of the company’s sports betting arm….and we’re not talking the Bassmasters Classic.

The UK’s second largest bookmaker, Ladbrokes, is taking odds on various fish species becoming extinct.

George Monbiot of the Guardian noted that, earlier in the week, Ladbrokes was taking bets on mackerel after conservationists removed it from the “fish to eat” list.

Monbiot noted:

Just before Christmas (which could explain the paucity of coverage the story received), the British government gleefully tore up the scientific advice, trampled the evidence, ignored the pleas of conservationists and gave two fingers to common sense by fighting to prevent the European Union from cutting the catch in the seas surrounding this country.

These odds appear to be offered on an “off and on” basis as they were “off” on Friday when Gambling911.com went looking for them.
