Michael Keaton Best Actor Oscar Odds Still Pay Better Than 2-1 After Spirit Win
Michael Keaton could prove an Oscar surprise with odds that have the potential to pay out better than 2-1 or $20 to $25 for every $10 bet.
“It’s a rare situation where the nominee with the second shortest odds is garnering the most attention,” said Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com. “While this year’s Oscar nominees are among the most ho-hum in years, the odds and payout potential are anything but.”
Categories like Best Actor, Best Film, Best Director and two in sound editing are especially competitive this year. So too is the Best Animated Feature.
Keaton odds remained virtually unchanged overnight even with his Spirit Awards win on Saturday.
In “Birdman”, Keaton plays the role of a washed up actor who hears voices from the famed superhero character he once played and is determined to reinvent himself as a serious Broadway actor.
Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian writes of “Birdman”:
It is a terrific film: smart, funny, more or less in control of its own hyperactive invention. The Academy loves the idea of a comeback and may be beguiled by Keaton’s personal resemblance to his role. Keaton is really good in it — a best actor Oscar for him is not out of the question — but I think this is the director’s achievement.
