Miss Russia 2010 Irina Antonenk Among Miss Universe Favorites

Miss Russia 2010 Irina Antonenk was the co-favorite to win the 2010 Miss Universe pageant, which will be held this Monday night.  She, along with Miss Mexico, are only slight favorites to win at +700 or 7/1 odds.  A handful of other contestants came in with +750 odds at SBG Global.

Miss Russia has only won the Miss Universe contest once back in 2002. Oxana Fedorova took the crown that year but certain improprieties led to her being dethroned. Miss Panama Justine Pasek was later crowned Miss Universe 2002.

During Fedorova’s reign, she was forced to deny pregnancy rumors and stated that she voluntarily gave up her crown for personal reasons, mainly because she wanted to finish her law degree.  Officially, she was dethroned for failing to perform the numerous duties expected of a Miss Universe titleholder and organizers refuse to recognize her as a former Miss Universe winner.

At the time she stated in an interview that she had declined to perform her duties because she was so insulted by her treatment on The Howard Stern Show. She blamed the pageant organizers for not warning her of the frequently profane Stern commentary, of which she, as a foreigner, had no prior knowledge.
