Miss Universe 2010 Ratings Down: Betting On The Event Way Up
While the ratings for the 2010 Miss Universe pageant may not have been pretty, traffic for betting on the event was way up over last year, according to Gambling911.com stats.
Senior Editor Payton O’Brien: “There was definitely an interest in finding odds on the Miss Universe 2010 pageant and our traffic certainly demonstrate this fact.”
The most searched term according to Gambling911.com’s Facebook page: “Miss Mexico Odds” and every possible variation. Miss Mexico ended up winning the competition. Miss Trinidad & Tobago, Miss Jamaica (who was first runner up) and Miss Ireland were also well searched.
“The Gambling911.com had a tough time withstanding the onslaught of folks coming in to check out the payout odds,” O’Brien states. Gambling911.com registered 100 visits per 1 minute and 20 second interval on average during the hour following the show.
Only half of Gambling911.com’s online bookmaker sponsors offered odds on the event. That was down from 75 percent last year.
The NBC broadcast registered a record-low rating in the 18-49 demographic. The 1.7 rating for the Miss Universe 2010 competition tied with Fox's "Lie to Me” during the first hour. There was slight improvement during the second hour: a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, better than ABC's "Dating in the Dark's" 1.6 in the demo.
