Moonlight Short Odds to Win 2017 Oscar Best Picture

While La La Land is a virtual ‘lock” to win Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards, Moonlight would pay US$35 for every US$10 bet should it win the Oscar for Best Picture and those are scary short odds in a category that is considered a “lock”.

The Best Picture category has also tended to surprise in past years when compared to other categories. 

Described as a “vital portrait of contemporary African American life and an intensely personal and poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love”, MOONLIGHT examines the life of an African American man depicted in three different stages of his life: Child, teenager and hardened and physically imposing adult.  This film has “sleeper” and “upset” written all over it.

A -1100 favorite – that being La La Land – losing in this category would represent the biggest Oscar upset however.
