The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 2012 betting odds had reigning champion Joey Chestnut as the big -700 favorite at Bookmaker.  You would have to bet $7 to win $1 or $25 to win $10.  If Chestnut is to win AGAIN you will be refunded your initial bet plus winnings (i.e. $7 +$1 or $25 +$10).  This event takes place July 4th and will once again be broadcast on ESPN where it receives pretty good ratings.

Anybody but Joey would pay out $3.50 for every $1 bet, however, there is a limit of $25 that can be placed on the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.  The most that can be won is $87.50.  Keep in mind, Chestnut won his fifth straight title last year by consuming 62 hot dogs and buns (HDBs) in ten minutes.  There’s a reason why he’s listed at 1/7 odds.

Don’t laugh, this is actually one of the most wagered on events of the summer.

The most popular of the bets is the OVER/UNDER number of hot dogs consumed by Chestnut.  This year, the line is set at 62.5 with the UNDER at -140 and the OVER at EVEN odds.   A $25 bet on the UNDER would yield just shy of $20 (plus the $25 is refunded) while the UNDER would pay out about $25 on the same bet.

Additionally there is betting on the OVER/UNDER number of hot dogs eaten by competitive eater Sonya Thomas.  She is listed with an OVER/UNDER of 40.5 and a line of -120.
