Odds Favor Bill Maher Taking Over Coveted 9 pm ET CNN Timeslot
Gambling911.com have Bill Maher assuming the 9 pm ET timeslot for CNN with his own show now at EVEN odds on the preliminary boards. Gambling911.com often posts theoretical odds before they are available on the BetOnline website for actual wagering.
The coveted timeslot has been without a bonafide "star" since the network terminated Chris Cuomo in the wake of allegations he had secretly helped his brother, Andrew Cuomo, while the former New York governor faced multiple accusations of sexual harassment. Cuomo, for the record, denied any wrongdoing.
For the past year, CNN has featured a revolving lineup of network personalities beginning with radio host Michael Smerconish. He also has his own Saturday morning show on the news network.
Maher's "Overtime" show began airing on CNN Friday late night just days after reports the network might be considering filling the 9 pm timeslot with a comedian.
On Tuesday February 28, CNN began heavily touting a one-on-one interview between Maher and host Jake Tapper airing during the 9 pm ET hour that evening. There is every indication Maher is about to take on a more prominent role with the news network.
Maher is perhaps the perfect fit for a full time gig on CNN, especially if it's indeed true the network is seeking out a comedian. His current show airs on HBO, which is now merged into CNN and the Discovery Network.
In May 2021, AT&T announced its proposal to merge its media subsidiary WarnerMedia (Warner Bros.) with Discovery, Inc. The transaction was approved by the European Commission in December 2021 and was completed on April 8, 2022, forming Warner Bros. Discovery.
Whether an announcement is made during the February 28 9 pm ET interview remains to be seen. The odds of this happening before year's end are good nonetheless.
