Peter Turkson, the Cardinal of Ghana, Marc Ouellet of Canada and Angelo Scola of Italy are each favoured to be named the next Pope to succeed retiring Pope Benedict next month.

Turkson has slightly shorter odds at 11/4 at BetOnline while Ouellet and Scola were both coming in at 7/2 odds.

Nigeria's Cardinal Francis Arinze continued to have short odds at 11/2.  Should either Arinze or Turkson be chosen, they would become the first ever Black Pope.

On Wednesday it was announced that Pope Benedict was considering speeding up the process by changing the rules of the election.  Church law states that cardinals should wait 15 days after the papacy becomes vacant before starting a conclave so that the cardinals eligible to vote have enough time to travel to Rome.

Gambling911.com has become one of the most searched for websites when it comes to betting on the next Pope.
