Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

What time does the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest start?

You can watch on ESPN at Noon Eastern Standard Time and don't think you will be alone.

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is a ratings bonanza for what would otherwise be a slow 4th of July day.  ESPN had over 1.5 million households tune in last year and that number could be much higher Sunday, especially with the controversy surrounding whether Kobayashi will compete or not.

Another 30,000 spectators will be watching the event live in Coney Island, New York.

In addition to drawing strong ratings, the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest also brings in good results for online gambling websites.

At press time Sportsbetting.com was offering Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest betting props that included the OVER/UNDER on number of franks consumed by the winner:  That number being 67 ½.  Last year, reigning champion Joey Chestnut prevailed by setting a new record of 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.

Chestnut was the big favorite but a win by anyone else would pay out $50 for every $10 bet though the bet is graded "no action" should Kobayashi choose to participate at the last minute.  Kobayashi's odds were around 2/1 prior to his backing out.

The event runs for an hour.
