Move over Mariah Carey. Wham's "Last Christmas" is the favorite to knock off the "Queen of Christmas" in 2025 as the number one song on Spotify. At least that's what the prediction markets are believing.
75% of those trading at Kalshi believe "Last Christmas" will come out on top while 25% believe it will be Carey's "All I Want for Christmas".
According to Kalshi's rules: If Last Christmas is #1 on the Daily Top Songs Global chart for the chart dated Dec 25, 2025, then the market resolves to Yes. Outcome verified from Spotify Charts.
"Last Christmas" was initially released on 3 December 1984 via CBS Records internationally and as a double A-side via Epic Records with "Everything She Wants" in multiple European countries.
The track was written, performed and produced by the Wham! member George Michael. He wrote it in February 1984 about a Christmas time breakup, and recorded it that August.
"Last Christmas" initially spent five consecutive weeks at number two on the UK singles chart. It was beaten to Christmas number one by the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", on which Michael also performed.
"All I Want for Christmas Is You" is a song by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey from her fourth studio album and first holiday album, Merry Christmas (1994). She wrote and produced the song with Walter Afanasieff. It was released as the lead single from the album on October 29, 1994, by Columbia Records.
The single broke the record for the longest gap between release and reaching number 1 in both the United States and the United Kingdom, 25 and 26 years respectively
In 2025, the song set a record as the longest-running number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining at the top of the chart for twenty-one weeks.
