"Some would argue that the Westminster Dog Show is even more glamorous than the aforementioned Miss Universe and Miss World," says O'Brien.
The show is not without its scandals however as last year's winner, Bailey, will not be making an appearance in Madison Square Garden.
To cause a mighty show dog woes, it only took the smallest of foes.
"Hundreds of ticks!" said Michele Piskin, describing the state her prize-winning bearded collie Bailey after her returned home from a three-day excursion into the wilds of North Stamford. "He had puncture wounds, his paws were bleeding."
Bailey, better known in dog show circles as Brigadoon It's All About You, was named Best of Breed in the annual American Kennel Club's Westminster Dog Show in 2007. This year, however, Bailey had to forgo the honor of competing in the show at Madison Square Garden after losing most of his prized hair to the groomer's shears so he could rid himself of the persistent pests.
