During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo became famous for his notorious wink which followed Wayne Rooney's sending off in quarter-final.  Now we are learning that Ronaldo spit at a cameraman following Portugal's loss to Spain on Tuesday.

Ronaldo scored one goal to run up the score late against North Korea, but otherwise was not particularly effective at this year's World Cup.

Walking off the field, the former FIFA World Player of the Year appeared to spit at a cameraman.

While this is being made out to be a huge news story across the globe, it should be noted that footballers (and athletes in many sports in fact) can often be seen spitting.  There appears to be nothing to suggest that Ronaldo was actually aiming at the cameraman.

The incident is fortunately being overshadowed by England footballer Ashley Cole texting someone that he "hates England and all its f***ing people".
