Germany vs. Spain
Wednesday, 2:30 pm Eastern - ESPN

With all due respect to Uruguay and the Netherlands, Wednesday's semifinal match between Germany and Spain is already being billed as the true World Cup final. Spain was favored before the tournament began to win the title while Germany is playing better than any team right now.  World Cup odds at SBG Global have this match as a pick.

Germany is coming off a 4-0 rout of Argentina and many people are now jumping on the German bandwagon.  Caution should be advised though as Spain is still the better team and Germany will be without one of their best players as Thomas Mueller is suspended. He picked up his second yellow card of the tournament and will have to sit out this match against Spain. He will be missed as he has four goals in Germany's five matches. The three-way line at SBG Global lists Spain at +150, Germany at +160 and the Draw at +215. The total on the match is 2.5 with the under at -150.

Two years ago in Euro 2008 it was Spain getting the victory over Germany 1-0 and they have virtually the same squad now.  Germany head coach Joachim Loew believes his squad is much better than the one that lost that match but he still thinks Spain is the favorite. Germany has some youngsters like Mesut Oezil who are making a difference and Bastian Schweinsteiger has been superb in the midfield.

Germany has been able to exploit teams in the World Cup because they have gotten the early lead in their matches. That might be difficult against a very good Spain defense.  Spain has players like Andres Iniesta and Xavi who can control the play.  It should also be noted that in the Euro 2008 final two years ago, Spain did not have Villa who was out due to injury.  It was Fernando Torres who scored the game winner. Torres has not played well in the World Cup but he could still be a factor on Wednesday.

Germany has played superbly in the World Cup and many people are now on board believing they will beat Spain in the semifinals.  Whenever a team becomes the darling of the public they oftentimes will suffer a fall and it could happen to Germany on Wednesday against a dangerous Spain team that has yet to play their best game.
