The mollusk medium, Paul the Octopus, is perfect with his picks at this year's FIFA World Cup.  While he has only picked games featuring Germany, Paul has managed to accurately predict that teams two losses including an early stage game to Serbia that not even the oddsmakers could have foreseen.

Sports gamblers are guaranteed an opportunity to ride Paul's pick on at least one of the last two 2010 World Cup games to be played:  Uruguay vs. Germany.  That Saturday match will determine which team finishes in third place.

A spokesman for his aquarium told Agence France-Presse that the pick will be made some time on Friday.

From there it is likely Paul will make his prediction on the 2010 FIFA World Cup final some time Saturday, but there is one minor caveat.

Paul might not be hungry after he makes his Uruguay-Germany pick.

The octopus makes his selections by choosing one of two boxes that contains some tasty morsels.

"We do not want to overburden him," the spokesman said, referring to a possible loss in appetite or should Paul be too tired.

Not everyone is thrilled with Paul's picks.  His Spain selection to bet Germany did not sit well with those living in that nation.  Germany is home to Paul's aquarium.

From The Daily News:

Despondent crowds insulted both Paul and his mother in Berlin. Other soccer fans have posted octopus recipes on the Internet in not-so-veiled threats to Paul's wellbeing.

But the Spanish government has come to his defense: "I am concerned for the octopus ... I am thinking of sending him a protective team," joked Spain's Prime Minister Jose Luiz Rodriguez Zapatero on Radio Cadena Ser.

Environment and Fisheries Minister Elena Espinosa also expressed worries, the AFP reported: "On Monday, I shall be at the European Council of Ministers and I shall be asking for a (fishing) ban on Paul the octopus so the Germans do not eat him!"
