Wayne Rooney a “Preening Prima Dona”
England is in some serious trouble at this year's World Cup with teammates lashing out at their coach and suggesting that star Wayne Rooney is a "preening prima dona".
ANGRY Fabio Capello has vowed to get a grip on out-of-control Wayne Rooney as simmering tensions in the World Cup camp threaten to boil over, the News of the World reported on Sunday.
Team USA would almost certainly advance with a win over Algeria this week while Slovenia also looks to move forward with a win or draw against England.
The News of the World reports that Rooney expects the side to be built around him and blames everyone else when things go wrong.
The nation was left stunned when the striker turned to a TV camera as he stormed off the pitch on Wednesday and sneered: "Nice to see your home fans boo you. That's what loyal support is."
Rooney later apologized to fans for his rant.
Capello later admitted he fears Rooney has psychological problems. He said: "He's completely fit and in training we have to send him back to the dressing room every time. He's perfect. The problem is in his mind."
One source told the paper he blames Rooney's ego for the outburst.
"Wayne came into the competition placed on the same podium as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and thought he could eclipse them," he said.
England is listed at just better than 1/2 odds to beat Slovenia on Wednesday while the USA is a near even odds favorite to beat Algeria at Bookmaker.com.
