The BCS National Championship game kicks off tonight (Monday, January 10, 2011), 8:30 pm Eastern – ESPN

A high scoring game is expected on Monday night when Oregon and Auburn battle for the BCS National Championship.  It is a fantastic matchup between two unbeaten teams with explosive offenses.  Oregon led the nation in points per game while Auburn has Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. The game can be seen on ESPN and could be the highest rated game in the history of the network.

Auburn is a 1 point favorite with a total of 72.5 at SBG Global.com

Monday’s game could be the highest scoring national championship game in history. Oregon led the nation scoring almost 50 points per game and Auburn was not far behind putting up almost 43 points per game.  There is a good chance that both Oregon and Auburn will score at least 40 points on Monday which would surpass the 2006 title game when Texas beat USC 41-38 as the highest scoring championship game ever.

Oregon has rolled over almost every team they played this season. Their only close call was a 15-13 win over California in mid-November.  The Ducks were never in real danger in any other game.  Auburn on the other hand seemed to be in peril every week. They had to come from behind eight times to win, four times trailing by double-digits.

Oregon has the top offense in the country but Auburn has the best player.  Cam Newton had one of the best seasons any college player has ever had.  He rushed for 1,409 yards and 20 touchdowns and he also finished as the nation's top-rated passer with 28 TDs and six interceptions. Not to be forgotten in this game is Oregon’s LaMichael James who led the nation in rushing.

Auburn will be trying to give the SEC their fifth straight national championship. Here are the football betting stats for Monday’s game. The Ducks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 bowl games as an underdog. The Tigers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.

The Over is 4-1 in the Ducks last 5 non-conference games. The Over is 14-5 in the Ducks last 19 games overall. The Over is 4-1 in the Tigers last 5 games overall. The Over is 6-2 in the Tigers last 8 non-conference games.
