Big 12

Tony George of TonyGeorgeSports.com has released his Big 12 Report for 2011.

Well this weekend many pieces of the puzzle were unlocked.  Okie State dominated Texas AM in the second half to pull away behind the golden arm of 28 year old Brandon Weeden.  I had that as a crucial test for the Aggies to get in position for a Big 12 title and they failed at home.  Later that evening Oklahoma was busy taking care of Mizzou as a 21 point favorite, who won by 10 against a shorthanded feisty Mizzou team who can play some defense but just do not have the power game to hang and no depth at RB due to injury.

Kansas State pulled the biggest upset of the weekend against Miami which was a total shock to me, I had no expectation of them hanging there.  Was it a Ohio State hangover or does Bill Snyder simply coach other head coaches under the table in a big game?   I think it is a combination of both.  Texas Tech had massive issues with a not so good Nevada team which is shocking, and Iowa State remains undefeated and is a 10 point pup at home to Texas this week who also is undefeated but having serious QB issues as young McCoy is at the helm.  Baylor continues to roll and has a huge game at K State this week as a 4 point road favorite and QB Griffen is just killing it.

Texas AM has a massive road game with Arkansas.  A preview of being in the SEC, and after a devastating loss, they are a 2.5 road fav to open up.  I am staying away from this early till I add up the stats, it will be a great game and remember that Arkansas beat them last year in Dallas by 7 last year as a 5 point favorite with Mallet at QB.

Lets break down a few of this week’s games.

Ball State at Oklahoma -38

OU has Texas and the Red River War on deck.  Off back to back brutal games, both draining, I expect OU not to be as sharp in this one and while Bob Stoops is not one to look past anyone, you may see some starters rested in this one late in the game and this is a big number considering their past 2 games and the one in front of them.  Ball State 3-1 on the year and 27-10 ATS their last 37 on the road.  I smell a faint dog cover in this one based on circumstance and Ball State not a bad club with nothing to lose.

Texas -10 at Iowa State

The Cyclones may get a sense of reality this week, but this is not an easy game for Texas.  ISU is very tough at home, they have a win over 2 BCS schools, and Iowa State beat Texas in Austin last week.  While Iowa State has done it with smoke and mirrors and Overtime, they may get a wakeup call this Saturday at home in a rare night game.   I think Texas by 2 TDS, worth a look, but hate double digit road favs in conference action.

Texas Tech -7 at Kansas

Kansas is still counting the yards that Georgia Tech rolled up on them, in a 66-24 loss, my college game of the Year winner 2 weeks ago.  Texas Tech struggled BIG TIME with a bad Nevada team and while Seth Dodge has been lighting up the scoreboard and yardage books throwing it for Tech, KU had a week off and will be able to score on Texas Tech.  Just not enough.

I will have my Big 12 Game of the Week, a 2 Dimer on the K State and Baylor Game Saturday on an individual card as I start my Big 12 featured play of the week.
