Under second season head coach, expect the Carolina Panthers to continue to improve while other division teams like the New Orleans Saints encounter obstacles such as losing critical parts of their defensive weapons and their head coach, Sean Payton, due to a highly publicized bounty program.

Cam Newton must focus on reducing the number of interceptions thrown (he threw the sixth most interceptions in the league).  On the other hand Newton threw for over 4000 yards and rushed for over 700 yards.  Carolina also has solid running backs the likes of Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and newly acquired back Mike Tolbert.

Injuries to Jon Beason, Ron Edwards and Thomas Davis resulted in Carolina’s poor defensive record.  They were ranked 24th in passing and 25th in rushing.  Those numbers should improve as all three players are set to return for the 2012 regular season.

On the surface, this Panthers team looks capable of playing above .500 football

Gambling911.com is giving them 3 division wins, 3 non-division wins against at home vs. Seattle, Oakland (in the final week) and either Dallas, Denver or the Giants.

Based on last year’s performance, Carolina will face a number of teams on the road that underperformed such as Kansas City, San Diego, Chicago, Washington and Philadelphia.  It is easy to see the Panthers taking two of these or perhaps even beating Tampa Bay on the road.  Carolina appears to have a soft schedule so there is definitely some value in the Panthers to win OVER 7.5 games at -125.  We just wish the price was a little more enticing.
