Chargers Odds Could be Hurt by Shawne Merriman Arrest

Pro Bowl linebacker, the centerpiece of San Diego's defense, is accused of choking a female acquaintance, reality TV's Tila Tequila. It's a major headache for a team opening its season Sept. 14 at Oakland.

Gambling911.com had determined San Diego to be one of the best teams in the NFL on paper and this cannot help their cause.

She signed a citizen's arrest complaint at the scene charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment, and was taken to a hospital, according to the reports.

Merriman, formerly of the University of Maryland, was released from custody shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, the Union-Tribune reported.
