With San Diego making the long trek to the East Coast against one of the toughest teams in the NFL, oddmakers have posted a line on the Chargers-Patriots game at -8 in favor of New England, though some books were offering this one at -7.   BetOnline.com was one of the online sportsbooks offering the Patriots spread at -7.

New England has won 4 of the last 5 in this series dating back to 1997 though the Chargers have covered 3 of those using the current spread.   The two home games, however, were both won by the Patriots, who also managed to cover the current spread.

Blake Frazier, Betting Analyst for BetOnline.com noted:

“While the defense remains a work in progress, the Patriots’ offense is downright scary and it is hard to imagine the Chargers slowing them down after what they did to Miami. San Diego has a ton of talent and should be able to keep this one close early on, but it could be tough for them to keep up with the New England juggernaut throughout the entire game.”

Two great trends that offset one another:  The Patriots are 13-4 Against The Spread in their last 17 games as a home favorite of 3.5-10.0 while the Chargers are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0.
