Some are calling it highly impactful, primarily for the Cincinnati Bengals.

On Saturday, it was reported that the New York Giants traded Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals for the No. 10 pick in next week's draft.  ESPN's Adam Schefter first broke the news.

The Bengals were sitting with 25-1 odds to win the 2027 Super Bowl and an over/under of 9.5 regular season wins as of April 19 following news of the trade.

This represents the first time the Bengals have traded a top-10 pick for a player in the common draft era (since 1966).

The trade helps the Bengals solidify an offseason strategy built around strengthening the line of scrimmage. In free agency, Cincinnati signed former Seattle Seahawks edge rusher Boye Mafe to a three-year, $60 million deal and added former Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Jonathan Allen on a two-year, $25 million deal.

This move is expected to improve a defense that ranked 31st overall last season, likely positioning them as favorites in the AFC North while catapulting the Bengals into the top tier of Super Bowl contenders.  Last season, the Bengals' defense gave up the most rushing yards per game in 2025 (147.1).

The defensive upgrade is expected to push the Bengals toward being favorites in the AFC North.

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
