Clemson Win Was Worse Ever Loss for One Vegas Book
- 2017 College Football Championship matchup most wagered on College Football game in BetOnline history
- Biggest loss ever for one Vegas sportsbook firm
- “It was as bad as a result as humanly possible,” said William Hill spokesperson
On Tuesday BetOnline revealed that the College Football Championship matchup between Clemson and Alabama was its most wagered on College Football game in the betting firm’s history.
Much of the action was on Clemson it turned out, thus their shock 35-31 final second win caused BetOnline to take a bit of a hit. Little did we know the negative financial impact this victory had across the board.
The Las Vegas sportsbooks confirmed Wednesday that they too had suffered losses as a result of Clemson’s victory.
In the case of William Hill, which runs several books throughout Vegas, it was the single worse loss in company history at better than seven figures.
“It was as bad as a result as humanly possible,” noted William Hill director of trading Nick Bogdanovich.
Bill Sattler, director of specialty games for Caesars Entertainment, backed up Bogdanovich’s assertion in an interview with ESPN calling it “the worst loss in any college football game I can remember”.
It has been estimated that between $15 million and $20 million was wagered on this game in Nevada alone.
