Colin Kaepernick to the Miami Dolphins?
Could controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick be heading to the Miami Dolphins following an off season injury to Ryan Tannehill?
Baltimore is one of the teams that’s been in discussions about taking on Kaepernick in light of the shoulder injury to Joe Flacco. The Dolphins have now entered the Kaepernick talks after receiving
its bad news Thursday when Tannehill went down with a non-contact injury to his left knee, the same one on which he suffered a sprained anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in Week 14 last season.
From USA Today:
This would be the move, of course, that would bring the most media attention and debate. Kaepernick has become the most polarizing figure in the NFL after kneeling for the national anthem last season and speaking out about several social issues. Deciding to sign him likely entails more than a run-of-the-mill move.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, however, has spoken positively of Kaepernick and players who protested the national anthem – including ones on his own team.
“I would sure hope not,” Ross told reporters last Thursday when asked if he thought Kaepernick was being blackballed. “I know a lot’s been written about it, but you know owners and coaches – they’ll do anything it takes to win. If they think he can help them win, I would hope they would sign him.”
The Eagles Malcom Jenkins says that teams are “cowards” for passing on Kaepernick.
“This is just some other teams being, quite honestly, cowards, to say that they’re afraid of backlash to sign someone to make their team better when fans’ input has never been in the equation when it comes to signing people in the past,” Jenkins told delawareonline.com Thursday. “It’s certain owners’ way of making an example out of [Kaepernick] to discourage anybody else from doing what he did.”
Baltimore is still very much on top of the list of likely Kaepernick suitors but Miami’s recent woes may force them to act faster.
Kaepernick has not exactly ingratiated himself with NFL fans in South Florida where he has previously made pro-Castro comments.
Miami’s season wins totals odds were taken OFF THE BOARD Friday with news of Tattenhill’s injury and the possibility of being lost for an extended period of time, perhaps the entire season. They were a slight -125 favorite to win OVER 7.5 regular season games before Tattenhill’s injury.
