Cristiano Ronaldo Sets La Liga Record

Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new La Liga record by scoring 39 goals in a single season.  He had previously shared the record of 38 with Athletic Bilbao’s Telmo Zarra and Madrid’s Hugo Sanchez.

Ronaldo managed to score a goal at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium from the far post after just four minutes of play Saturday.

Ronaldo danced with his teammates in celebration of his 52nd goal of the season overall and 10th in four games.

Both Ronaldo and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi are the first Spanish league players to have scored at least 50 goals in all competitions during a single season.  Ronaldo has scored 85 goals in two seasons with Real Madrid.

….Skybet.com was currently offering odds on a Ronaldo after summer transfer window with Man City the favorite at 4/1.

Manchester City have rejected speculation that they are about to launch a big-money move for Ronaldo, however.

The former World Player of the Year quit Manchester United for Real Madrid in an £80 million deal two years ago

"Speculation linking the club with Ronaldo is ill-informed and unfounded and nothing other than mischief-making," senior officials told Sky Sports.

"Whilst there is no doubt that Ronaldo is one of the world's greatest players, he is not on the club's list of transfer targets."

Speculation is especially hot since there are said to be tensions between Ronaldo and his head coach Jose Mourhinho.

Chelsea and Man United have the next shortest odds of landing Ronaldo at 16/1.
