Trinidad Chambliss's passing yards total for Thursday's big College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl between Miami and Ole Miss was coming in with an over/under of 275.5 while Carson Beck's number was listed at 235.5.
The first of two College Football Playoff semifinals pits two teams not expected to get this far. Miami didn't play in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game due to tiebreakers, but earned the CFP nod over champion Duke thanks to its resume and CFP ranking. The Hurricanes are vying for their first national title since 2001 behind a suffocating defense and a steady offense led by Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck.
Miami held No. 7 seed Texas A&M and second-seeded Ohio State to 17 combined points the first two CFP rounds.
Beck was 19-for-26 passing for 138 yards and one touchdown during Wednesday's 24-14 victory over Ohio State. He also had seven rushes for 23 yards.
From Rotowire:
In the Hurricanes' first-round game against Texas A&M, Beck completed 70.0 percent of 20 pass attempts for 103 yards and a 1-0 TD-INT ratio to go with four carries for negative yardage and a fumble. Except for touchdowns, he improved in all facets Wednesday, which provided the Canes an additional boost to help upset Ohio State. Beck has been quiet but relatively mistake-free during the playoffs, and that may just be enough for a Miami team now waiting for either No. 6 Mississippi or No. 3 Georgia in the semifinals.
Ole Miss spent the last part of the regular season wondering if coach Lane Kiffin would leave for LSU and played two playoff games after he made the jump.
Behind dual-threat quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, the high-scoring Rebels blew out Tulane in the first round of the playoffs and took down No. 3 seed Georgia in the quarterfinals.
Chambliss completed 23 of 29 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's win over Tulane. He also rushed six times for 36 yards and two additional scores.
