New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints odds opened at New England +3. Sports Interaction still held the line at Patriots +3 as of Thursday.  Others, such as Sportsbook.com,  had dropped the line all the way down to New Orleans -1 ½.  Just over 75 percent of the betting action was on New England here early on.

This was expected to be the most bet on game of the week and most anticipated.  It is a Monday Night showdown between two of the league's top teams.  New Orleans is one of two teams (Indianapolis being the other) that remain undefeated.  The Patriots nearly beat the Colts two weeks ago in what turned out to be a heartbreaker.

NFL.com had this to say: New England is one of two teams with a winning record left on New Orleans' schedule. As pressure for a perfect regular season has mounted, the Saints have played several close games (last week's blow out of the Bucs aside). The Patriots, the only team to go 16-0 in the regular season, have motivation to end the unbeaten run and keep alive their playoff aspirations.

Something else to consider: The Patriots have lost both games they have played against teams that currently have winning records (Broncos, Colts). Although the two defeats came by a total of four points, New England could use a quality victory with the playoff stretch arriving.

Frank Doyle of Sports Interaction:

"New England's visit to New Orleans is the most eagerly awaited Monday Night game of the year. It's got the highest total of the week, because everybody knows this is going to be shootout. And when the smoke clears, I think the Patriots will be the last men standing.

"There are lots of reasons for thinking it, and lots of arguments to be made in favor of the Saints too, who could get to the Super Bowl this year and no-one would be a bit surprised. But I'm learning toward the Patriots on this one because they will want to win this. They shot themselves in the foot against the other undefeated team in the NFL and such is the level of pride in New England in the Belichick era that the Patriots really don't want that kind of thing to happen again.

"The level of need isn't the same for the Saints. They need only look across the line of scrimmage at the Patriots themselves to find out what a perfect season is worth to you if you don't win it all. If New Orleans loses Monday Night, the Saints are 10-1 for the year with some clearly winnable games down the line. That percolates through the psyche, and maybe fellas don't have that extra burst for first downs they did back in September or October. Add it all up, factor in the fact you're getting points, and there's only one way to go. New England +3 at New Orleans with Sports Interaction is my pick on this game."

New England has won both appearances against New Orleans so far this decade.
