Among the hottest trending searches on Google Tuesday night was Pat Haden joining USC as that school’s new athletic director.  He will replace Mike Garrett, who served there from 1993 until 2010.

In 2010 the USC football program was hit with severe NCAA sanctions, and USC self-imposed sanctions on its basketball program, in the wake of allegations about violations involving former USC stars Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo.

The LA Times points out that Hayden was the right man for the job as he “has pretty much lived a life of doing it right, aboveboard, with hard work and perseverance”.

Haden has been married to the same woman for 34 years, raised four children, has made lots of money in an investment firm and has maintained a public sports profile with his job as a network analyst for NBC on Notre Dame home football games.
