Saints Vicodin Scandal

Tape recordings may show a New Orleans Saints Vicodin coverup according to Associated Press reports.  The Saints are accused of trying to cover up prescription Vicodin thefts from team headquarters.  An unnamed "senior staff member" was caught on video using a trainer's key to steal Vicodin.

Former Saints security director Geoffrey Santini, who says he resigned last August over the club's handling of the alleged Vicodin thefts, filed a lawsuit late last week.

Santini worked for the FBI for 31 years and was the lead agent in a gambling corruption case that resulted in the conviction of former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards.

"We're not adverse to letting the NFL know what we know," said attorney Donald Hyatt, who represents Santini. "That's the governing body for the sport. Maybe they need to know what's going on."

Saints spokesman Greg Bensel has denied the allegations and said the club is prepared to vigorously defend itself in court.

But the distractions have already had an adverse effect on the Saints odds to win the 2011 Super Bowl.  At betED.com the Saints odds had gotten as long as +1100, worse odds than the Dallas Cowboys (+1000) and San Diego Chargers (+1000).
