In Week 10, Kaepernick replaced Alex Smith as San Francisco’s starting quarterback following Smith suffering a concussion. That game against St. Louis ended in a 24-24 tie.
The following week, Kaepernick completed 16 of 23 for 246 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 32-7 victory over the Chicago Bears.
The San Francisco quarterback would go on to throw for a touchdown and run for another one against New Orleans, helping guide his team to a 31-21 win.
Kaepernick would ultimately be named starter over Alex Smith despite the later being healthy and ranked third in the NFL in passer rating.
