While Minnesota has owned this series in recent years, a meaningless game last season was won by Detroit while the Lions took care of Minnesota in an earlier game this season by a mere 3 points on the road.  That one went into overtime.

The Vikings last three games have been lost by no more than 10 points (the current spread).  The Lions are on a two game skid having lost to two of the best teams in the league, Green Bay and New Orleans.  They remain in contention for a Playoffs spot and it this game has all the ingredients for a high scoring affair.  Detroit has covered the current OVER/UNDER of 46.5 in 3 of their last 5, scoring 45 or better in games against Denver and Carolina.

More important stats, a pick and video preview for the Vikings-Lions game follows this advertisement…

The Vikings are 1-7-1 Against The Spread in their last 9 vs. NFC North.  The Lions, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC.

The Vikings are 4-11-2 ATS in their last 17 games as an underdog.

As an underdog of 3.5 to 10.0, they are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games.  The Lions are 9-19 ATS in their last 28 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0.

The Vikings are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games in December.

The Lions are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games.

The Lions are 4-0-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

The Over is 5-1 in Vikings last 6 vs. a team with a winning record.

The Over is 7-2 in Lions last 9 games following a ATS loss.

The Over is 13-6-1 in Lions last 20 games in December.

The Over is 10-4 in Lions last 14 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

Brian Blessing of Don Best TV noted that “What you get with a rookie tournament on the road is costly turnovers”.

That could provide great openings for the Detroit offense.

With Detroit having to face Oakland on the road next week, San Diego at home and Green Bay on the road to close out the season, this is the game they can’t afford to let get away.  It should be a statement game.  Look for this one to go OVER 46.5

*Adrian Peterson may not play for Minnesota, and if he does, could have limited field time.  Ndamukong Suh will not be available for the Lions.
