Waiting on the Roger Goodell Survival Betting Odds
ESPN.com is describing it as the “uncivil war within the NFL”, with the league Commissioner Roger Goodell now on the hot seat.
It’s typical of a website the likes of BetOnline to begin offering prop wagers on the resignation or firing of such a high profile figure in sports, and Gambling911.com is hearing such odds could soon be offered.
We got a little taste of something amiss last week during the Cowboys-Falcons game when it was revealed by the commentators calling the game that team owners Arthur Blank (Falcons) and Jerry Jones (Cowboys) were not speaking to one another due to the friction involving Goodell’s status. Seems Jones does not want him, Blank does.
But Jones is said to be the most powerful voice in the NFL and therein lies the problem.
The relationship between Jones and Goodell, once quite cohesive, has become strained in recent weeks.
Jones is furious over Goodell’s determination to suspend Cowboys star player Ezekiel Elliott for six games after Elliott was accused of domestic violence.
"I'm gonna come after you with everything I have," Jones said. Then he mentioned Deflategate. "If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard, Bob Kraft is a p---y compared to what I'm going to do."
Jones has threatened to sue the NFL and fellow owners to stop negotiations on a contract extension for Goodell. Owners voted 32-0 in May to allow the compensation committee to negotiate a new deal for Goodell.
Blank leads the compensation committee and sent a cease and desist order to Jones last week, according to a report in the New York Times.
Some owners support Jones, others do not.
So will Goodell survive to remain as NFL Commissioner? The oddsmakers are likely to post a line somewhere around EVEN for now.
