Wayne Rooney Sex Scandal: Switzerland v England At Risk
The Wayne Rooney sex scandal, which has sent shock waves throughout England, is threatening to cause even further harm…on the field. England is set to take on the Switzerland this coming Tuesday in the Euro 2012 qualifier and there is talk that Rooney may not be “mentally stable” to play.
Fabio Capello was uncertain as to whether Rooney would play against the Swiss as of late Sunday.
The sex scandal involves one Jenny Thompson, a £1,200 per session vice girl who admitted to having had sexual encounters with the England footballer.
The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson cancelled a visit to the stables of racehorse trainer Paul Nicholls in Somerset in response to the shock reports.
Rooney is to football as Tiger Woods was to golf (and the past tense sadly could soon apply to the England striker). He has long been portrayed as a devout family man. Now the revelations include, not only sex with a prostitute, but engaging in threesomes and doing so while his wife Colleen was pregnant.
Teammates like James Milner urged Rooney to play against Switzerland.
‘When you are playing for England there is always the spotlight there,’ he told the Daily Mail.
‘But that’s the way the game is now and we are very privileged to be representing this country, playing in front of thousands of people week in, week out and enjoying what we do for a living.
'We are very lucky. Whatever job you do there will be things you like and things you don’t and that comes with the territory.
'But you want your best players on the field and you saw on Friday what a player Wayne is.
'Hopefully, he can go out and get a hat-trick on Tuesday night.’
Switzerland had value going into its 2010 Euro qualifier against England with odds of 4.00 that would pay around £30 for every £10 bet.
