Friday night's Blue Jays-Mariners loss was painful as Toronto had led by two runs heading into the 8th only to have the game get tied up in the bottom of that inning 2-2. Seattle scored in the 9th to make this one 3-2. Oh well. You win some, you lose some. We are still way up with our record on the season thus far. Let's look at today's games. The Rockies-Marlins matchup may not be as good as it looks with Miami just a -155 favorite at home. We tend to stay clear of these sucker lines and no way we're backing Colorado.
Following the resumption of the Mets-Red Sox game from last night, it's Max Scherzer (8-3, 3.99 ERA) vs. James Paxton (5-3, 3.51 ERA).
Paxton was roughed up in his last outing but has been mostly stellar this season. He's holding opponents to three or fewer runs in seven of his past eight starts.
The Mets have also struggled a bit against lefty pitchers.
Scherzer, meanwhile, has not had a win in his last two starts, this despite pitching seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, in a no-decision Sunday against the Dodgers.
Both Boston and New York bullpens sit just outside the top 10 but these two starters should make it into the 7th inning.
Seven of the last eight Mets games have stayed UNDER the current total of 9.5 while only three of the Red Sox games have done so.
While the number of at bats for the Red Sox current lineup versus Scherzer has been limited, there is one sick stat to consider. Justin Turner (.289 with 15 home runs on the season) has gone 6-for-15 off of Scherzer with four of those being home runs. Ouch!
