Twins righty Kenta Maeda has posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 39 strikeouts in 33 frames when we take away the April 26 game against the New York Yankees where Maeda got absolutely shelled for 10 runs. Hence the actual 5.50 ERA.
In his last start, Maeda allowed three runs with six strikeouts over three innings on Friday in a no-decision against the A’s.
The Mariners have struggled facing right-handers, sporting the 11th lowest wOBA and second highest strikeout rate in the league.
Maeda is capable of pitching 7 innings: Important being that the Mariners currently sport the best bull pen over the past ten MLB games.
He's only faced seven current Mariners players but the total arrives at 46 at bats with just 7 hits, two of which were home runs (.152). Kolten Wong has contributed the most to that .152 number and he's just .161 on the season.
AJ Pollock has one of the home runs against him but is just .169 on the season with 5 homers and has gone 2-of-15 against Maeda.
Eugenio Suarez has the other homer but is .226 on the season and went 2-for-12 against the Twins starter.
It can be argued that some of the Mariners top current batters have not faced Maeda. Still these are good stats to consider.
Luis Castillo (6-7, 2.96) is coming off a loss versus Detroit. He allowed three runs with five strikeouts over five innings. He's only permitted four hits in 20 at bats versus the current Twins lineup. He is capable of pitching 7 innings.
The series has landed on 13 runs in the last two but before that stayed UNDER the current total of 7.5.
Minnesota is 6-4 in the last ten meetings vs. the Mariners.
