Annie Duke Won’t Be Making This Final
Annie Duke bowed out of the 2009 World Series of Poker after only one day Sunday.
"I'm out. I am now retiring to bed. Until next year," Ms. Duke said after busting. The ESPN cameramen had been hovering over her for a good two hours "like vultures".
Duke became the hottest story in poker this year after appearing on the Celebrity Apprentice. She and fellow Celebrity Apprentice, Joan Rivers, engaged in an all out war, helping to drive ratings for the once troubled franchise. The finale was watched by millions and ended up winning its time slot for that evening.
Duke admitted she was "crippled" after "losing two huge pots" before her ultimately exit.
Her bust followed that of the favorite to win the 2009 World Series of Poker, Daniel Negreanu.
Annie Duke's World Series of Poker appearance wasn't a total loss. She managed to raise millions during the Ante Up for Africa tournament last week.
Duke's fellow UltimateBet.com colleague, Phil Hellmuth, arrived to the event earlier in the day, carried in by a bunch of guys dressed up as gladiators. Hellmuth himself was dressed as a Roman emperor. He should have dressed as a Irish Leprechaun. Neither Hellmuth or Duke have had much luck at this year's WSOP.
