Police in the United Kingdom are investigating a series of armed robberies at bookmakers in recent days.

A hooded man held up a bookmakers in Glasgow's St Enoch Square on Saturday and just a day earlier a premises in Bothwell was raided.

The city centre robbery happened at 4.20pm at William Hill when a man threatened staff with a gun and demanded cash.

A three-figure sum was handed over, and the man fled towards the Clyde.

No-one was injured but the staff members were left shaken and upset.

In a separate incident on Friday, a gunman forced staff at a bookmakers to hand over cash.

The man was buzzed into the office at Ladbrokes in Heanor Market Place at 9:10 PM. He threatened two female staff members with a hand gun before escaping.

The man wore a dark hat with eye holes cut in, a grey coat and carried a red shopping bag. He is thought to be around 50, short, with a large build, and had a Scottish accent.

Detectives are keen to trace a youth who was in the area and wore an orange fleece top.

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing following an armed robbery at a Lanarkshire bookmakers in Main Street, Bothwell.

A masked man, believed to have a gun, entered the premises of McKenna Accountants at 12.40pm on Friday and threatened staff before fleeing with a four-figure sum.

He is described as being white, 20 to 25 years of age, 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall, with very short, light coloured hair.

He was wearing a light coloured jacket, blue jeans and dark coloured trainers.
