BetButler.com License Revoked by UK: Site Unavailable

In yet another black eye for UK online gambling, BetButler.com has had its licensed revoked in that nation.  As of Saturday morning, the site remained offline, though BetButler.com apparently went out of business last month.

The Gambling Commission finally revoked the licence because:

  • The Licensee is unsuitable to carry out its licensed activities in a manner which is consistent with the licensing objectives,
  • The Commission is not satisfied as to the competence of the Licensee,
  • The Commission is not satisfied as to the financial circumstances of the Licensee,
  • The Commission is of the view that one or more conditions of the licence has been breached.

The troubled online gambling company had stopped paying many of its customers back in April.

This is not the first time a UK-based Web gambling business folded abruptly.

In 2014, the popular Purple Lounge Online Casino and Poker site, operated by Media Group, shut its doors, stiffing customers in the process.

Principals from that now defunct firm are now part of a new company called BoxHill / SmartePay, which just happens to be operating Casino Cash machines outside of London’s iconic Hippodrome Casino.

No word on whether the UK Gambling Commission has sought to investigate this group further.
