Sports bookies both online and in Vegas enjoyed a successful weekend and hope that trend continues with the start of NFL this upcoming weekend.

Among the big hits in Vegas, Virginia covering against UCLA.

“We didn’t win the most on the day with Virginia covering against UCLA, but it was one of our most one-sided games on parlays with UCLA,” said South Point sports books director Bert Osborne in an interview with Sporting News.

Two other huge wins for sportsbooks were heavy favorites Alabama and Florida failing to cover their respective spreads on Saturday.   -19.5 favorite FSU witnessed the most betting action but managed to squeak by with a six-point victory.

“That was the marquee game at 5 p.m., the game that everyone wanted to have action on,” said Osborne. “We had a few large wagers on Florida State and then had parlays weighted on Florida State almost at the same ratio we had with UCLA.”

The bookies entered the weekend on a high note with Texas A&M stunning South Carolina outright Thursday night.
