ESPY Awards Pulled Due to Suspicious Betting Patterns
Sportsbook.com has pulled its odds on the upcoming ESPY Awards after noting some unusual betting patterns, it was revealed on Friday.
The activity was coming from New York City and the Connecticut. ESPN is based out of Bristol, Connecticut and hosts the ESPY’s, which honor top teams and athletes.
Oddsmaker Mike Perry told Covers an unusual amount of betting activity came in on LeBron James to win best male athlete and the Miami Heat to win best team.
"We had one customer from Hartford earlier today asking for 'over the bet limit' ($500 max bet) on both," he said. "We hardly got any action then all off a sudden Tuesday morning we got these multiple max limit bets."
Perry told Covers they "thought it was weird" that one particular player was “so keen on making an over the limit bet on LeBron at 3/2 odds when Adrian Peterson was a co-favorite and Miguel Cabrera offered a much better payout”.
"Definitely appears to be a leak," Perry said. "We hadn’t run the ESPYs for four to five years because of same thing."
Those who have already placed their bets will have those wagers honored.
