Australia’s Consumer and Business Services (CBS) has revoked the license for Help Save Furry Ones, a charity that was supposed to help find homes and provide shelter for cats but instead has been accused for misappropriating funds at various online gambling websites.
The regulatory body issued this statement:
“Consumer and Business Services (CBS) received information alleging that some of the funds raised by the charity for the care of animals were being transferred to a company associated with online casinos.
“I have made a determination that the funds being raised for a charitable purpose were being mismanaged or misapplied, and the license was revoked," the regulator continued. “The operator of Help Save the Furry Ones is no longer allowed to solicit funds, and I would warn South Australians not to donate to this organization.”
The charity was founded by one-time exotic dancer Nicky Hocking. She has denied the allegations.
