Federal Government Sets Deadlines in New Jersey Sports Betting Case
The US Federal Government on Tuesday issued a January 20 deadline for the US Attorney General’s office to intervene in New Jersey’s landmark sports betting legal battle against the major sports leagues and NCAA.
John Brennan of NorthJersey.com first reported Tuesday evening:
On Tuesday, we got some news: U.S. District Court Judge Michael Shipp signed an “Order Certifying Notice of a Constitutional Question” to the U.S. Attorney General’s office in response to Governor Christie’s filing last week of a “Constitutional Question.”
So we have a Dec. 5 deadline for the leagues to respond to the state’s case made last week, a Dec. 18 date for oral arguments, and a Jan. 9 end to the state’s moratorium on the issuance of sports betting licenses to state racetracks or Atlantic City casinos.
Gambling911.com observed last week that the NFL and other professional sports leagues appeared to offer contempt rather than any true evidence when they were deposed by New Jersey counsel recently.
“The leagues are going to get pounded,” a source close to the matter tells Gambling911.com.
Their Motion for Summary Judgement can be found here.
