Former Mob Boss Joseph ‘Big Joey’ Massino Admits He is a ‘Rat’

Testifying against Genovese capo Anthony “Rom” Romanello in a Brooklyn federal court on Monday, one time Mafia boss Joseph “Big Josey” Massino admitted he’s a “rat” and took credit for being the first don to violate the mob’s blood oath of omerta.

“I’m hoping to see daylight at the end of the tunnel,” Massino said during testimony

Defense lawyer Gerald McMahon grilled Massinoin in cross examination earlier: “You became a rat!”
 “Correct,” said Massino.

It may be all for naught, however, as Massino is currently serving two life sentences and stands little chance of seeing sunlight outside a confined prison yard.  His testimony has made him eligible for a Rule 35 reprieve whereby one’s sentence can be drastically cut by a judge.

When asked if there were any other Mafia figures in the courtroom, Massino was quick to point to Romanello.

“The man sitting over there with the glasses, Romanello,” he said.
