Paul Greenwood, 52, of Barnsley, England, is the "unluckiest" gambler of 2008, at least based on bookmaker William Hill's assessment.

He was given the dubious honor by Great Britain's second biggest bookmaker after the electronics engineer lost out on March 1, having made a last-minute alteration to his weekly £10 accumulator bet.  He predicted wins for 14 football teams.

The Yorkshire Post reported:

As a Manchester United fan, Mr Greenwood would normally pick the Old Trafford team as winners.

But he thought the Reds would field a team of reserves against Fulham that weekend, because they had been playing in Europe, and changed his top team to Arsenal.

"But then my other 13 teams won and Arsenal only drew against Aston Villa. Then I saw that Manchester United had beaten Fulham, which meant I lost a massive amount of money. It was a kick in the teeth."

William Hill has given Mr. Greenwood a £1,000 free bet figuring he'll probably lose it.
