Gambling Ad Shown On Kid’s Television Network: Regulators Livid
A serious breach of regulations occurred May 25 as it was revealed that a gambling ad had run on both the Turner Cartoon Network and Boomerang Channel. Worse, they were shown during the prominent viewership period of between 6:42 and 8:42 am.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of Great Britain said Turner had apologised for the error that led to the ad being "inadvertently and incorrectly scheduled" on their children's channels, blaming an erroneously allocated booking number.
A Turner spokeswoman said: "The running of the Coral gambling ad on Turner channels was a genuine mistake and the result of human error with booking numbers. We apologise unreservedly and have reviewed our transmission processes to ensure this highly regrettable incident remains a one-off occurrence."

But the damage has already been done and some of these kids could end up being scarred for life. The ad opened with a voiceover which said: "This is Coral gaming, online and on mobile," before showing a visual of the Incredible Hulk, among other images. A voiceover and visual then stated: "New players get a free £10 gaming bonus...Play now (at) coral.co.uk." Coral, one of the UK’s biggest bookmakers, expressed utter horror over the airing on both children’s networks. As a precaution the company suspended upcoming advertisements scheduled to run on other Turner networks over that weekend. |
