He was seen on video surveillance snatching an iPhone from a 20-month-old girl while she was using it to watch an episode of “Barney The Dinosaur”.   The baby’s mum had her back turned at the time.

For this hideous crime, Mr. Fletcher was sentenced to 42 weeks behind bars.

Helen Bennett, chairman of the bench at Sefton Magistrates' Court, said: "We have decided to send you directly to custody. This is because you are a perpetual offender and you have a long and unenviable record of similar crimes."

"The child began to scream because the phone had gone," Prosecutor Alison Clarkson said.

It was also revealed that Fletcher has preyed on the elderly including both an 87-year-old and 91-year-old woman.  In those two cases, the perpetrator ran off with their respective handbags.
