Jimmy Vaccaro: Vegas Derby Record Could be Set Thanks to Mayweather-Pacquiao

Oddsmakers in Vegas aren’t just anticipated huge action on this weekend’s highly anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.  The Kentucky Derby is happening that very same day (May 2) and at least one oddsmaker believes that fight could help to set Derby betting records.

''We've got a hook nobody talks about," he told the Newark Star Ledger this weekend in reference to how his book at the South Point seeks to offset the potential of ‘smart money’ failing to roll in on the fight. "The Kentucky Derby. They will be sitting in the sports book at 6:30, half of them freakin' drunk and they are going to be running around in a festive mood, and they are going to bet the Derby just to have something to do until the fight. I would bet we might just set a Derby record."

Saturday will likely see the most single day wagering action of any day in history thanks to both events.  The Kentucky Derby is traditionally the most bet on single day event outside of the Super Bowl.
