The Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority's Chief Executive Officer, Mario Galea, did nothing to confirm or deny persistent reports that he was resigning this past weekend.

Galea refused to comment yesterday but the online gaming portal igamingprofilermalta.com reported that he had cancelled appointments at the European iGaming Congress and Expo (EiG) to be held in Barcelona next week.

Galea would have been one of the star guests of the EiG in Barcelona and has spearheaded the Maltese iGaming industry for the past years, establishing it as an international base for foreign investors in the sector.

Asked by the same portal, LGA Chairman Nick Xuereb said he was "unaware" of Galea's impending resignation.

Asked about Galea's cancelled engagements in Spain, Xuereb said: "I would prefer not to comment on this."
