Malta has Yet Another Black Eye Following Purple Lounge Shutdown

The online gambling jurisdiction of Malta has said there is little it can do about the abrupt closure of Purple Lounge Casino and Online Poker Room.

The Lotteries & Gaming Authority of Malta issued this statement:  “The licenses of Purple Lounge (Malta) Limited were terminated on the 23rd April 2012 upon the request made by the licensee. Before the termination process was completed, the Authority made sure that there were no pending complaints and that the licensee was compliant with the Remote Gaming Regulations.

“Since the operator is no longer licensed by the Authority, the Authority cannot assist players having issues with the aforementioned operator following the date of termination of the licenses.”

Purple Lounge shut down last month without warning.  Last summer, an executive with Purple Lounge’s parent company, Media Corporation, found himself in trouble with the law while on vacation with his family in Disney World.  His wife was arrested for having oral sex with a black man in the men’s room of a hiphop club.   She also is alleged to have resisted arrest.

Media Corporation claims Purple Lounge has failed to repay an outstanding debt.

Malta has come under fire for its failure to assist players of the struggling Everleaf Gaming Group, which shut its doors to US customers earlier in the year and has yet to pay a vast majority of that player base since.
