Nebraska State Senator Pleads Guilty in Gambling Probe
Nebraska State Senator Brenda Council has plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges of violating campaign finance laws in connection to gambling.
Council admitted to making 36 withdrawals totaling $63,000 from her campaign account for the purpose of gambling. $36,000 of those funds were ultimately returned.
State Attorney General Jon Bruning had received a tip from law enforcement. He examined casino video and bank records and found that Council spent a lot of time at the slots and tables at the Sac and Fox Casino in northeast Kansas, according to WOWT TV.
Council stated: “I have a gambling problem. I didn’t deal with it appropriately. Instead, it caused me to commit a grave error in judgment.”
She is currently running for re-election.
